Plus4: Recap
Jackson Koivun takes the world by storm for his 1st PGA TOUR win in his 3rd event as professional. A ground-breaking weekend that puts the whole world on notice.
I chose to tie my DK lineups to LOSAHS in Keith Mitchell, Kitayama and not follow the Koivun hype. Hand up -> bad call.
Our core play Michael Kim (and my call to win) was the 36-hole leader after a crazy Friday 59. Turns out Mike flew too close to the sun and burned out early.
The same goes for Michael Brennan, who faltered over the scorching weekend.
And Bill Mouw who lost almost 6 strokes putting in 2 days to miss the cut on the number (gutting loss there)
Plus4: Detroit GC
In the final Rocket Mortgage, we get a completely new Detroit GC. A Donald Ross course castrated by Fazio has been returned to glory (by preliminary reports) by Tyler Rae. Rather than my own breakdown, I’ll point you to Ron Klos, who conducted a great walkthrough on the changes. My summary and what flows into my model this week is:
- Expect a lower GIR: New greens and refined fairways will make approach play more difficult, while still easy. I believe with the renovation and much newer greenside bunkers and greenscapes, the way to play Detroit will be from the traditional areas of the fairway… this is much different than the past.
- Putting and ARG: With the restoration, the greens and greenside areas should play as intended by D. Ross and create spots to place pins that have historically been too benign and stalked by the field.
Plus4: Detroit GC corollary courses
