We are back for Travelers. I took a solid hiatus as I was abroad… even when a post doesn’t hit there, the numbers are always posted at PGA TOUR weekly course breakdown, insights, and player betting expectations.

This week, we get the fingers firing again.

If you were following the Course Fit plays over in PGA TOUR weekly course breakdown, insights, and player betting expectations, you may have had your best week of the year. We dodged all of the right bullets, fading Bryson, Rahm and Si Woo, and were overweight on the winner and runner-up in Wyndham and Burns. While nothing to write home about, I personally had my week of the year and will ride that wave into this week.

Plus4: TPC River Highlands course notes

  • River Highlands is a short king paradise. A short track that puts almost all pressure on the 90-150 yard approach bucket. This course used to produce some journeyman winners – those journeymen are no longer invited here.
  • TPC River Highlands is not a course to be overpowered. Everything here is about ball control both with driver and short irons. Missing greens is very penal with difficult ARG play.
  • This is a course that “flattens” the field. Guys in the middle echelon of the TOUR can compete, as those players are typically the shorter, more accurate players. As driver becomes less of a weapon, we look further down the board for value and dampen what is typically the largest advantage for the better, top-ranked players.

Plus4 Picks: Travelers Championship

Reminder: the player pool below is focused on DraftKings ownership, inclusive of leverage considerations and player upside.

Favorite Play:
Akshay – $7.4k… been bad, but now going into form. The driver has been awful since he came from India, but I like a move to a short course on northeast Poa.
Cantlay – $8.9k… Patrick’s approach benchmark is back up near top 10 player in the world. The ARG play is always solid, we have great history in the northeast, at this course, and on greens type of this realm. Let’s hope that Si Woo being $100 cheaper soaks up ownership, so that “P. E. Private Equity” bad boy can make a splash.

Star Anchor:
Aberg – $9.8k… a guy not known (to me at least) for around-the-green play. But a guy who can get very hot with short irons, and somebody who has won on short courses. If winning score is more like -18 than the -23 that is expected, I will be happier.

Gut Check:
Bobby Mac – As with Ludvig, I hope the course can toughen up a touch. Bobby Mac’s putter can get nuclear on these greens. Great from inside 100 yards and simply due for it.
Hideki – $7.3k and coming to place where the driver may be able to stay in the bag a bit more, creating opportunities to lean on more metals. I trust Hideki to flip it, and he doesn’t always show signs before it will occur. Amongst the highest OTT and APP bump in my model.

Favorite Sub-$7,000:
Matt McCarty – You rarely see approach projections in my model for a guy. Not ‘elite’ from 50-100 yards, not ‘elite’ in driving accuracy, but super reliable in both, and somebody who, as above, is a flop lag play after 2 weeks. Struggling on approach at Muirfield Village and Shinnecock? That’s fine. This is a much different test.

Plus4 Bets: Travelers Championship

I am afraid that Scottie will win, and I don’t want to sit in front of the Scottie Train. There is no worse feeling than your runner getting destroyed by Scottie… with that, I have taken a number of Winner Without Scottie bets for this week, represented by the longer names you see below.

My odds shown below via the datagolf.com Custom Model tool

Ludvig – +1475 (w/o Scottie), T5
Akshay – +6800 (w/o Scottie), T5, T10
Sam Stevens – +9200 (w/o Scottie), T5, T10
Meissner – +15500 (w/o Scottie), T5, T10
Matt McCarty – +19500 (w/o Scottie), T5, T10

Guys I would not mind include Justin Thomas, Bobby Mac, and Mav McNealy, and they may get some late money from me.
